Katy High receives award for Tiger Prairie Grass Initiatives

Congratulations to Katy High teachers, Dr. Rhonda Burrough, Kelly Knight and Susan Barker for receiving the 2019 Science Teachers Association of Texas Innovation Award for the “Tiger Prairie Grass Initiatives” project. This award-winning project is a collaboration between Katy High teachers and students who created “the one-acre prairie to make it a suitable home for deep-rooted prairie plants that mitigate flooding and increase infiltration rates.” Tiger Prairie was created in 2018 and will be presented at the Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching by STAT.

Tiger Prairie Grass Initiatives received a grant of $2,500 from the Katy ISD Education Foundation and will receive $4,000 from this Innovation Award. The Science Teachers Association of Texas Innovation Award was started this year to bring attention to science projects in Texas that deserved recognition and funding for further research.
