Katy may be the lucky recipient of the world's longest car wash if all goes to plan! The new Katy Buc-ee's gas station, which will feature 120 gas pumps, a 56,000 square foot store and accompanying 255-foot car wash, is expected to open near Cane Island in the West Ten Business Park later on this year. The company is in the midst of applying for the Guinness World Record as the world's longest car wash at 255 feet.
Rock climbers and adventurers, get excited for the debut of Momentum Indoor Climbing, a massive, "world-class" rock climbing facility, which is set to open its doors in Katy next summer. The facility will be located at Katy Mills Parkway and Kingsland Boulevard. Star Cinema Grill plans to expand in the Houston market by opening a theater in the Katy area. Commercial real estate firm Wulfe & Co. announced the company will build a 42,000 square foot theater near the intersection of the Grand Parkway and the Westpark Tollway. The theater is planned to open fall of 2016, will add 150 to 200 new jobs, and will serve areas such as Cinco Ranch, Bella Terra, Richmond and Fulshear. For more information, visit here.
Chevron has purchased 103 acres of land off Grand Parkway and Clay Road in Katy, for future use. The oil company does not yet have any specific plans for the site, according to company officials.
“Chevron is simply acquiring the land to give the company future R&D facilities flexibility as we grow and expand our presence in the greater Houston area,” said Justin
Higgs, spokesperson for Chevron. “No specific use or employee decisions have been made as it pertains to this location.”
Chevron officially closes on the land in the third quarter of 2014.

Newpark Drilling Fluids opened its new world headquarters at 21920 Merchants Way, off Mason Road near I-10, on June 17.
Newpark Drilling Fluids, a subsidiary of Newpark Resources, broke ground in March 2012 and features a 37,000 research laboratory with a state-of-the-art downhole drilling simulator and analytical capabilities.
