32nd annual Katy Folk Life Festival to be held April 1

On Saturday, April 1, you can catch a glimpse of what life in the 1800s was like for the early pioneers of Texas at the 32nd annual Katy Folk Life Festival. This event will allow visitors to see how these pioneers dressed, ate and survived in the late 19th century. The Katy Folk Life Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, at the Kenneth D. Welch Outdoor Learning Center in Katy, and admission is only $1.

Relay for Life of Katy to be held April 1

Mark your calendar for Relay for Life of Katy, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, from 4 p.m. to midnight at Katy City Park. Relay for Life is a nation-wide event that raises funds to go toward cancer research and ultimately finding a cure to cancer. The event benefits the American Cancer Society, and hundreds of Relay for Life events are held across the nation each spring in their honor.

City of Katy gears up for Super Bowl weekend

The Katy area is gearing up for Super Bowl LI this Sunday! The City of Katy will hold its Taste of Katy Chili Cookoff this Saturday, followed by the Celebrity Sweat Flag Football Game, which will feature several celebrity players. Dallas Cowboys' Michael Irvin and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback / Katy Tiger alum Andy Dalton will be in attendance, as well as many more. This fun event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, at Rhodes Stadium, and tickets will be available at the gate.

Katy ISD hosts grand opening for SPARK Park

Last week, Katy ISD held the grand opening of its first SPARK Park. SPARK is a program that developes parks on the grounds of public schools with the mission of providing a play area for surrounding neighborhoods and the entire school area. The park is located on the Winborn Elementary school grounds and is free and open to the public. The park features slides, monkey bars, benches, picnic tables, an outdoor classroom setting and much more.

American Cancer Society to host Bark for Life of Katy

On Saturday, Nov. 12, The American Cancer Society will be hosting a Katy-Area "Bark for Life" event, a walk event designed specifically for dogs and their owners to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society. By participating in the event and donating to the American Cancer Society, participants are contributing to the American Cancer Society's goal of less cancer and more birthdays.

Katy Rice Harvest Festival to be held this weekend

You won't want to miss the 36th annual Katy Rice Harvest Festival, voted by the Katy community as the Best Annual Community Event. This year's festival will feature two days of action-packed fun, with food trucks, a carnival, craft and food booths, and two stages of continuous live music and entertainment.
