The Katy High School Destination Imagination (DI) Team, Pi DI-ers, recently received sixth place in their challenge at the 2016 Destination Imagination Global Finals, which was held May 25 - 28. Three other Katy ISD DI teams placed in the top 10 in their challenges, competing against over 1,400 other teams at the Global Finals.

On May 7, Katy ISD voters elected new board members to serve on the Katy Independent School District Board of Trustees. In Postion 1, voters elected George Scott, while Rebecca Fox was elected to serve in Position 2. The 2016 Katy ISD Volunteer Celebration Breakfast will be hosted on from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 13, at the Merrell Center Arena. This annual breakfast honors community members and parents who serve the district through Katy ISD's Volunteers in Public Schools program. The Katy ISD Education Foundation invites you to GROOVE, the annual event hosted each spring in partnership with the Katy Jazz Festival. There will be live jazz music, great food and great company, and all proceeds will go towards the Katy ISD Education Foundation. Each month, District Administration, an education magazine, chooses a school district to honor for using technology in innovative ways to improve students' learning experiences. This month, Katy ISD received this award, the District of Distinction Award, from District Administration magazine. Katy was chosen from districts across the U.S. to be honored for its transformative technology uses, such as the dashboard and data tools Katy ISD has been working over a year to develop. For the second consecutive year, BP America Inc. has contributed to the Katy ISD Education Foundation as a Foundation Cornerstone Investor, and has generously donated $50,000 to be used towards Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) related teacher grants. This year's Katy ISD Education Foundation's "Inspiring Imagination" grant initiative administers grants to educators in the district. Katy High School's head coach of the football program, Coach Gary Johnson, has recently received the honor of being chosen as a 2016 inductee to the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame. The official announcement was made on Saturday, Dec. 19 during an announcement ceremony at NRG Stadium. Coach Gary Johnson will be inducted along with eight other inductees.
Johnson's current coaching record is 167-14, and he has led the Katy High School Tigers to eight state finals games. The induction ceremony will take place in Waco, Texas, on May 7, 2016. For more on this story, visit READ MORE »
Paddy Fisher, a senior at Katy High School, was recently announced as the second annual recipient of the 2015 Greater Houston High School Rotary Lombardi Award. This award is presented to an outstanding football player who also best exemplifies Vince Lombardi's discipline. Rebecca Lacquey, a Katy High School United States History teacher, was recently chosen by Humanities Texas as a recipient of the 2015 Oustanding Teaching of the Humanities Award. Humanities Texas board member and State Rep. John Zerwas met Lacquey in her classroom to present her with her award and her check of $5,000. In addition, Katy High School has received $500 for materials to further instruction. Over 450 educators across the state were nominated for this prestigious award and only 12 were chosen.
