Katy ISD hosts STEAM Movie Night

Katy ISD is hosting STEAM Movie Night at the Shaw Center tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. for high schoolers and their parents. The hit movie Gravity will be shown, and Dr. Natelson of Rice University will be discussing the science behind the movie afterward. For more information, visit here.


Katy ISD Education Foundation to host Fireflies & Foodtrucks event

Mark your calendars for the Katy ISD Education Foundation's Fireflies & Foodtrucks event, which will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17 at No Label Brewery. This event will include live music from Earl Sanders Jr, valet parking, a new beer garden area and more. Fireflies & Foodtrucks will benefit the Katy ISD Education Foundation and their Inspiring Imagination program, which will award grants to deserving educators. Katy ISD students exceed national and state ACT averages

The 2015 graduating class of Katy ISD exceeded both the state and national average ACT scores in every subject including mathematics, reading, English and science. Additionally, 49 percent of Katy ISD students met the ACT benchmark scores in each subject area. This percentage is over 20 percent higher than both national and state averages. This year, a grand total of 1,611 students in Katy ISD took the ACT exam, marking an increase of approximately 300 studens from 2011. For more on this story, visit the Katy ISD website.


Katy ISD superintendent appointed to SFA Board of Regents

Katy ISD Superintendent Alton Frailey was appointed to the Stephen F. Austin University Board of Regents by Governor Greg Abbott on Aug. 17. Frailey's term is not set to expire until Jan. 31, 2021. Dr. Scott Coleman of Houston and Nelda Blair of The Woodlands were also appointed to the Board. For more on this story, visit here.


Katy ISD students and staff now have access to Microsoft 365

Now all Katy ISD students and staff can download Microsoft Office 365, giving them access to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more. Students and staff can download the Office Suite on up to 10 devices, including computers, laptops, mobile devices and more. Katy ISD is home to eight 2015 National Merit Scholars

Each year, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announces the winners of the National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities. This year, NMSC announced approximately 2,200 winners - eight of which were Katy ISD seniors. The Katy ISD National Merit Scholars came from high schools across the district, including Taylor High School, Seven Lakes High School and Cinco Ranch High School. Katy ISD will begin junior high soccer program in 2016

Soccer will now be available at the junior high level for the 2015-2016 school year, Katy ISD recently announced, as long as the final school district budget is approved. Seventh and eight grade girls and boys will now be able to participate on teams at every Katy ISD junior high school. Junior high soccer tryouts will be held in the spring of 2016 with games to follow. Specific dates for tryouts and games and more information will be available this fall on the Katy ISD Athletics website.

2015 Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show and Rodeo

The 2015 Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show & Rodeo will celebrate its 72nd year beginning Wednesday, February 18  through Saturday, February 21, at the Fairgrounds located at I-10 and FM 1463 (next to the Merrell Center) in Katy. The Carnival and Katy ISD Student Night will be held on Thursday, February 19 at 5 p.m. The Katy Rodeo is the oldest community rodeo of its kind, and is held in conjunction with the District's annual FFA Livestock Show.​

Katy reaches 6A Division II regional final after drubbing Dawson

At the time, Katy football coach Gary Joseph said his team, especially the offensive line, had some growing up to do.

The Tigers were walking off the field at Woodforest Bank Stadium in September, heading to the locker room as The Woodlands players and fans were celebrating a decisive 21-point victory that sent shock waves across the state.

Joseph, who has led Katy to three state championships in 10 years, was right. Katy's staple is its powerful running game, but the offensive line had to replace four graduated seniors from from last season.
