For the tenth year, the Katy Home & Garden Show is returning from Jan. 30 - 31. This year's event will feature DIY Network's Matt Muenster, who stars in "Bath Crashers." Visitors will be able to explore over 300 exhibits, which focus on remodeling, kitchen and baths, flooring, landscaping, pools, DIY and much more, as well as the opportunity to visit seminars hosted by experts. Tickets will be $9 for adults and $8 for seniors, while kids age 12 and under will be free. On Dec. 23, two Katy firefighters were honored at a formal holiday dinner party as they were named the Gary Tilton Firefighters of the Year by Katy's American Legion Post 164. Dana Massey, Katy Fire Department Battalion Chief, was joined by Lt. Simon VanDyk as they were presented with this prestigious award. The Katy Tigers didn't just claim the Texas High School title over the weekend. They were named national champs in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 national football rankings.
Katy went into the championship weekend as the third-ranked team nationally, but their dominant 34-7 win over previously unbeaten Lake Travis vaulted them to the top spot in the country.

Kyle Porter, Katy High School senior, was recently chosen to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Porter was 1 of only 90 high school football players across the country chosen to play in this prestigious bowl game. At a ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 1, Porter was recognized for this achievement. The U.S. Army Bowl features the top 90 players in the nation's premier All-American high school game. The bowl game takes place each January at the San Antonio Alamodome. As is tradition, numerous families and friends gathered together early Thanksgiving morning to take part in the Katy Family YMCA's Turkey Dash. Some exciting news has just been announced for Katy-area Mexican food lovers. El Tiempo will be making its way to Katy in February, says executive chef and owner Domenic Laurenzo. Laurenzo will be opening the new Katy location of El TIempo in the space that formerly housed Trios Mexican Grill (21810 Kingsland). District play has ended, and now football teams across the Houston area will be fighting to make it to the next round of playoffs. The Katy High School Tigers will be facing off during this first round of playoffs against Westside today, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. at Rhodes Stadium. Rock climbers and adventurers, get excited for the debut of Momentum Indoor Climbing, a massive, "world-class" rock climbing facility, which is set to open its doors in Katy next summer. The facility will be located at Katy Mills Parkway and Kingsland Boulevard. The Shops at Katy Reserve will be opening on Oct. 16. New shops on the eastern side, anchored by Krogrer Marketplace, will be Massage Envy, Katy Dental Star, Russo's New York Pizzeria, Tender Touch Nails, SHSalon, Postal Plus and Subway. The Katy High School Color Guard will be hosting Spin-A-Thon, an event that will benefit Katy High School Color Guard and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. This event will take place from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, at the Katy High School gym. At this fun and free event, the KHS Color Guard will be practicing routines with pink spirit flags and have other activities such as a spin-off between grade levels, a bake sale and a tribute wall.
