The Katy ISD Board of Trustees recently approved "Legacy Stadium" as the name of the new Student Activity Facility: Second Stadium with a unanimous vote of 7-0. As per the Naming Committee's recommendation, the field itself will be named after Mike Johnston, former coach.
Legacy Stadium, a multi-purpose, state-of-the-art facility, will open in this Fall as part of the Academy Sports + Outdoors Activity Complex.

The Katy area is gearing up for Super Bowl LI this Sunday! The City of Katy will hold its Taste of Katy Chili Cookoff this Saturday, followed by the Celebrity Sweat Flag Football Game, which will feature several celebrity players. Dallas Cowboys' Michael Irvin and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback / Katy Tiger alum Andy Dalton will be in attendance, as well as many more. This fun event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, at Rhodes Stadium, and tickets will be available at the gate.

The third annual Katy Half Marathon will be held next Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Katy Mills Mall. The Katy Half Marathon is now a part of the Bayou City Half Marathon Series and will include the half marathon, half marathon two-person relay, 5K and kids 1K as well. All registrants will receive free high-resolution race photos, an event t-shirt, a finisher medal, complimentary parking, and more.

The Katy High School football playoff game will be held tonight, Friday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. The Katy High School Tigers will take on the Cypress Ranch Mustangs on neutral territory, NRG Stadium. Pre-sale student tickets are $6, whiles adult tickets are $11, and all tickets sold at the gate will be $15. Parking is $12 for tonight's game.

The University of Houston Cougar women's and men's track and field teams are headed to Franklin Field this weekend to compete in the 122nd annual running of the Penn Relays, which is held each year in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Penn Relays are the nation's first and oldest relay meets, as the first meet was held in April of 1895 at the University of Pennsylvania. The 2016 NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Final Four Championship will be held in Houston. The final rounds of the tournament will be held this weekend, April 2 -4, at NRG Stadium in Houston.
In the Final Four round, the University of Oklahoma will face off against Villanova at 5:09 p.m. on Saturday, followed by North Carolina vs. Syracuse at 7:49 p.m. The winners of these two games will move onto the championship game on April 4. For more information, visit here.
Katy High School's head coach of the football program, Coach Gary Johnson, has recently received the honor of being chosen as a 2016 inductee to the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame. The official announcement was made on Saturday, Dec. 19 during an announcement ceremony at NRG Stadium. Coach Gary Johnson will be inducted along with eight other inductees.

Kyle Porter, Katy High School senior, was recently chosen to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Porter was 1 of only 90 high school football players across the country chosen to play in this prestigious bowl game. At a ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 1, Porter was recognized for this achievement. The U.S. Army Bowl features the top 90 players in the nation's premier All-American high school game. The bowl game takes place each January at the San Antonio Alamodome. Katy High School football took a big win over The Woodlands High School last week. The Tigers defeated the Highlanders 14-7 in their pre-district game before heading into District 19-6A play this week against Mayde Creek. Katy defeated Mayde Creek this week with a score of 52-0. The Katy Twelve select baseball team brought home the 8U Triple A division 2015 USSSA World Series championship in early July. The Katy Twelve battled their way through the World Series in Sulphur, Louisiana, and finished off the year ranked No. 1 in the nation in USSSA, earning a crystal plaque, championship banner and championship rings.
