Soccer will now be available at the junior high level for the 2015-2016 school year, Katy ISD recently announced, as long as the final school district budget is approved. Seventh and eight grade girls and boys will now be able to participate on teams at every Katy ISD junior high school. Junior high soccer tryouts will be held in the spring of 2016 with games to follow. Specific dates for tryouts and games and more information will be available this fall on the Katy ISD Athletics website.
With the track and field season about to swing into full gear, Katy Girls Track and Field Head Coach James Darcey believes his squad might be ready to take a big step in the district meet that is coming up.
“We have had a pretty good little start to the season,” Darcey said. “We have had some girls put together some solid performances already but just like every year you lose some good kids. We had some kids that I thought were going to be difficult to replace but we have been lucky enough to have some younger kids step up and they have competed very hard. The Katy Tigers won District 19 last year and advanced to the area playoffs. After an undefeated non-district season, they are likely the favorite for a repeat championship.
Katy enters district play with an 11-0-2 record, including three tournaments. Along the way, they gave coach Tom McPherson his 700th career victory.
The Tigers finished 5-0-1 at the Katy ISD Tournament, Feb. 26-28, defeating Dulles, Lamar, Cy Woods, Stratford and Ridge Point with a total margin of 36-19.

At the time, Katy football coach Gary Joseph said his team, especially the offensive line, had some growing up to do.
The Tigers were walking off the field at Woodforest Bank Stadium in September, heading to the locker room as The Woodlands players and fans were celebrating a decisive 21-point victory that sent shock waves across the state.

The Katy girls' 4x200 medley relay team set a new school record at the Texas Relays held this past weekend in Austin. The team of Omri Brown, Deja Phillips, Tristan Sowell and Amari Johnson set the record time during the elite track meet.
