A new retail and office center is underway at Westheimer Parkway and Greenbusch Road. The Marcel Group, which developed the Villagio Town Center, plans to break ground on a 58,500-square-foot office and retail center, named Marcel Commons, in October. The development is expected to open in 2015.

Weatherford, an oil and gas services company, is now operating from its newest manufacturing and office facility in the Katy area. The 354,000-square-foot facility is located on 174 acres in Waller County, off Hwy. 90. So far, Weatherford has brought on 135 employees to staff its Katy location. The company expects to hire 335 more by the end of 2015.

The city of Katy is making progress toward creating a $1.3 million boardwalk just south of Katy Mills. The project could provide residents and visitors with an up-close view of an area teeming with wildlife. Chevron has purchased 103 acres of land off Grand Parkway and Clay Road in Katy, for future use. The oil company does not yet have any specific plans for the site, according to company officials.
